Comfort Link - "Suicide by Hallucination" cassette

- Description
- Sound Clips
It's been almost two years since the release of Comfort Link's Metaphysical Swatting, and in the meantime principal investigator T. Wisniewski has probably constructed the closest thing to a traditional "album" that you are likely to hear from this project, which is to say there's very little in the way of slow-burners, and instead we have short pieces with focused ideas and minimal instrumentation. One might be tempted to call these songs, despite their being for the most part fundamentally unmusical.
Similar to previous Comfort Link efforts, live sounds, including voice, feedback, objects, ungrounded cables, and keyboard are heavily manipulated via reel-to-reel tape machines and portable cassette recorders. But unlike recent albums Cement Music and Metaphysical Swatting, the voice here is used less as a sound source to produce abstract tape sludge and is taken closer into the realm of "spoken word", notably foregrounded from the rest of the garbled tape stew. Silence and negative space are also used much more intentionally here, confidently letting the tape medium find its own voice. Suicide by Hallucination again builds on previous research in the Comfort Link discography, but intensifies focus and utilizes composition in a much more conspicuous fashion.
Edition of 50 in multi-layer xeroxed and hand-screenprinted j-cards, with hand-stamped cassettes. Also available in a discounted 3-cassette bundle with our new tapes from Tim Olive and 0018.
